Merah, suspected of Toulouse killings, claimed his innocence.
On 2 April 2012, we learn that the lawyer for the father of Mohamed Merah says she has evidence that Mohamed Merah claimed his innocence to police.
The police said that during negotiations Merah confessed to the killings and refused to surrender peacefully.
But the lawyer told BFM television on 2 April that she had two identical videos of Merah that contradict the police narrative.
"In these videos, he says, 'I am innocent. Why are you killing me? I didn’t do anything,'" she said.
The lawyer is to file a lawsuit in French courts against the elite police force, RAID, that killed Merah.
Prosecutors say Merah spoke at length with negotiators from the RAID force while he was holed up in his Toulouse flat.
Police claimed that Merah said he had links to (the CIA's) Al Qaeda.
